Its been awhile since i made a lager. Im making a bock and doing a starter like always. Curious to see what the concensious is on starter ferm temp. Do you ferment your starter at 68F or lager temp around 55F. Im using wyeast 2038. Input would be helpful....Im pretty sure I used to do the starter at 68F but its been awhile since i did a lager.

Since it's for a lager, it will most likely be big or stepped up. So I ferment the starter at 68-72F, crash it in the fridge for a day or so and decant before pitching yeast. You're growing yeast and dumping the "beer", so no reason to ferment the starter cold.

makes sense thanks dark. I wasnt sure if it made a big difference or not. Plus if you fermented ur starter cold it would take a long ass time

3rd on normal starter temps for a Lager Yeast. I am also getting ready to brew my Helles Bock. I'll do a 4 liter starter, let it ferment out, decant and rack fresh wort on top of that yeast cake for another 4 liter starter. Let that ferment out and then use all that yeast for my Primary fermentation.
