Frequently Asked Questions for New Users

Q> How can I post pictures to the forum?
A> You can't. Use a third-party hosting service and then reference the photos with the IMG tag.

Q> I'm a newb here and my message didn't get posted, should I try posting it again 4 to 7 times?
A> No. All new users are on moderation. Post it once.

Q> I'm confused. I thought JP was Jon Plise.
A> No. JP = Jason Petros. Note that there is also a Jon Plise and a John Palmer.

Q> When I go into chat, my username is Guest12345 or something, how can I fix that?
A> Log in to the forum first. If you're not on the forum, register.

Q> Can I sell things here?
A> If you're a homebrewer and want to sell something on a non-recurring basis, use the classifieds section. If you're trying to run a business, contact justin@thebrewingnetwork.com and become an advertiser.

Q> What's with the funny hat? :asshat:
A> That's a Jayne Hat from Firefly. Around here it is known as an asshat.

Q> What's with the unicorn and rainbow? :unicornrainbow:
A> Shhhh. You have to listen to the secret show.

Q> What's with the gym pants? :nutters:
A> Those are nutters, son.

Q> What's with the sasquatch? :crazybitch:
A> That's Crazy Bitch. Sightings of her are very rare. Occasionally seen lurking around bedroom windows.

Q> The forum looks different when I view it from my mobile device. How can I shut that off?
A> Sure does. Use your non-mobile computer and access your User Control Panel and shut it off there.

Q> Can I shut it off from my mobile device?
A> No.

Q> What's the call-in number for the show?
A> 888-401-BEER

Q> I want to support you guys.
A> Sign up on the home page. Even the smallest donation helps immensely.

Q> What's a pm and how do I send one?
A> a pm is a Private Message. On every post in the forum, you can see the sender's info panel on the left side of the message.
Right below the picture in this sender info area is a little picture of an envelope.
Clicking on the envelope brings up the Private message entry screen.

Hello from Virginia. Member of the BN Army and have learned more than you can imagine from the podcast. Been brewing for 10+ years, switching from extract to all grain about 2 years back. The suns not up and I am about to mash out the American Amber right out of 'Brewing Classic Styles' Top of the morning to all, :bnarmy:

The faq does not tell me how long I am on "moderation" for being a new user (worst word to use in a homebrewing context). I understand you want to prevent bots/spam etc. is the cap 20 posts or 5 or what until I can be accepted into the BNArmy

Yeah, we have low standards around here. Once you are past the first few posts, you will also be able to PM other users.

Once the first 2 get approval then the 3rd will go straight through, though they will continue to queue up for approval if you keep posting while the first 2 have not yet been acted upon by a moderator.

How do I edit my profile? I'd like to add a userpic, a sig, and personal info. I'm just not seeing how I access this, but I'll admit I don't computer very well.

The difference between a beer geek and a beer snob is simple: A beer geek cares about the beer he drinks. A beer snob cares about the beer you drink.
