Brew Strong's 3-part Watergasm

Really getting a lot out of it so far. Most useful for me of all the episodes I've heard. One of my goals as a brewer this year is to really understand water chemistry and this is a big help. Looking forward to part 3, and to the flash version of Palmer's water-chem spreadsheet.

+1

Water is something that I've been fighting to REALLY understand over the past couple of months. Not trying to just "get it" when it comes to water. I've been using 5.2 and I don't want to do it that way any longer.

I may start building the water profiles on my next batch.

Hey, I just listened to the 3rd water show and I just want to give a huge shout-out and thank you to Palmer and JZ.

I was a little lost during the first show, but during the 3rd show I think you guys showed how easy it really is to adjust water to the type of brewing you are doing. Luckily I live in NYC and our very low mineral content means I will have to add to most batches, not subtract. It also answers some of my questions like why the Scottish ale I brewed with Aquariumdrinker (no mineral additions, lack of sufficient calcium) was so murky looking.

Looking forward to busting out Palmer's spreadsheet and color chart for the next batch and seeing what kind of results I can get! Thanks guys!

Really? You lived in Ohio too? I don't remember anyone in grade school named Mylo. Did you just dose me or did you get the whole class?

Anyway, I have to say NYC water is great. I drink it off the tap all the time. It comes basically granite-filtered through the catskill mountains. The only thing you can't filter out of it is the meds.

waited for all 3 podcasts and just listened to them while bottling up a batch. jz and palmer rock! thought i understood water well enough, but now i actually get it.
the water in edinburgh has almost no hardness, which is great cos i can add what i want to get to the right level - always gypsum to bring out the hops!
think i'll have another pint before bed, :aaron
