Beer Forum

Hope I'm not breaking the rules with this plug, but several people have asked about it. Here in Austin we have set September 1, 2008 as our target opening date for the Black Star Co-op Pub & Brewery(http://www.blackstar.coop), the world's first(as far as we can tell) cooperatively owned brewpub. We just passed the 500 member mark last week and kicked off our major fundraising effort at the beginning of this month. Since then, we've raised 12% of our goal. We've started a search for a location, which will be tough since a brewpub puts certain constraints on what makes a suitable property, but we expect to settle on something in the next couple of months. I know the question on most people's minds is, "How are you going to pay for this?" Here's how:

I wasnt aware that .coop was a valid web extension yet.

A brewery in Portland OR did this or something very similar 10 or 15 years ago. Alcohol has gotten to that part of my thinker and I don't remember any details. A little help from the PDX contingent?

Yeah, I hadn't heard of .coop either until we started using it.
