New Year's in Flagstaff

Tue Jan 01, 2008 7:47 pm

40 degrees is the coldest I have seen here in Scottsdale this year. The fam and I just took a trip up to our friends vacation house in Flagstaff for New Year's Eve. One word - shrinkage.... Damn it was cold (in the 20's). Beautiful, however. I didn't get to tour the local breweries, but my buddy picked up a growler of stout from Beaver Street. Not too shabby. Kids had fun sleighriding. My wife loved it (which was more of a shock - she hates the cold). For fun, we toured a small A-Frame for sale. Not only did it have what could be the perfect little brewroom off of the garage - but I'm pretty sure I could chill any wort down to lager temps with just the tapwater! My teeth nearly cracked off when I brushed them this morning. I wonder what it is like in the summer? Anyway, it looks like a fun little town that I need to spend some more time in.

Geist, it was a last minute thing - so I didn't have time to drop you a line. Maybe next time you can give me the Brewery/Pub tour.

You already hit the best brewery in town, but next time for sure. A shame you missed out on the pinecone drop, it was freezing, but a good time was had by all.

Hey costanza, was it significant shrinkage, maybe you should try some mango.

I've only been to flagstaff once. It was back in '99 we decided to stay there as our base camp for sightseeing in Arizona. We drove down to Phoenix for the Tempe fiesta bowl, which was why we went to Arizona in the first place. It was the Tennessee vs. Florida State National Championship game. My family likes UT a lot so we had to see the game. It was an exciting game and Tennessee won the National Title.

We had a nice time in Flagstaff though.

Went through on the 28th to visit some family and none of the brewpubs we went by were open for lunch WTF??? Thought the pine cone thingy is a little goofy, didn't have that when I lived there.

The town has changed a lot since 1993. Still a nice place to visit but wouldn't want to live there again.
