Cellular Service Recommendations

I trust you all fairly well, so I need opinions.

Two years ago, I chose Nextel for my company's cell phone service. I did this mostly for the walkie talkie function, which I rarely use anymore. To top it off, a few months after I went to Nextel, Sprint bought them out... and I hate Sprint.

So, with the two year contract up, I am thinking about changing service. Any input? I am thinking of getting a BlackBerry, mostly for the email function. Anyone have it and can advise if it is worth it? My mom has one and hates it, but I think part of that is that she doesn't know how to use it.

Any help you all can give me would be... helpful.

I have nothing for you save this,

I hate the Nextel radio beep with a passion.

Useless as always,

What is your usage patterns, i.e. % that you email, talk, text, use the net, travel a lot? Your needs will narrow your carrier.

Blackberries are good with everything except users I know talk about low-quality voice.

I also know a lot of people who really like the Palm Treo's but the email isn't as good as the Blackberry.

And everyone I know that's had a Windows Mobile, either Treo or Smartphone, has gotten rid of it.

The new blackberries like the 7100 series are nice and slim compared to the 7200 and 8700's. A guy here at work just changed to the 7100i from the 7520 (Nextel) and he loves it. Saved money by buying the phone on E-Bay. I had the 7520 from Nextel and it wasn't bad, but the cost was the main reason I got rid of it, around 110.00/month for data and phone.

I went back to Verizon from Nextel, better signal coverage for my area. The only thing I don't like about Verizon is that they don't let you install third party programs, Google has some cool stuff.. Other than that they are great.

My 2 cents.

Screw the phone man. Go back to 1980 and get a pager. Then you can still get emergancy messages but you have an excuse to not call anyone back. "I wasn't near a phone." Save the money and buy your self some brewing equipment.

Pager?? What am I 13 again!

Besides, it's not my money (per se), it is my company's money. I can spend that and write it off...

I guess I will have to talk to a sales rep about the fancy phones. I may just end up sticking with the flip phone. As long as I can still access my text messages and MLB.com to watch Astros games when I am out and about, then I'm good...

I work with a lot of people that have a lot of different phones and carriers. Verizon beats everyone for coverage. If you want to be able to talk anywhere it's what to go with. Thats been my experience around here.
We go through some bum-fuck areas and I never loss a signal.

Several of the guys have blackberrys and they just seem like fancy toys. I like to patch my laptop across my cell and have access that way.
