what's the best brewpub in salt lake city

i'll be staying there on saturday night on my drive home to washington, all i can find is squatters or red rock brew co and i'm just gonna flip a coin without any local army advice. thanks

Welcome to Utah! I frequent both establishments quite often. They are within a city block of each other so you could probably hit both. I think that the food is better at Redrock and the Beer is better at Squatters. Squatters also has a much bigger selection and some special releases available right now. If you are into sour beers I highly suggest their 529 Oud Bruin. They also have a Farmhouse ale that is really tasty.

Another suggestion is the Bayou its not a Brewpub but has a huge selection of beers (257 bottles and 31 on tap) and the food is awesome.

Also if you want to take some beer for the road a new brewery just opened up a couple of months ago a few blocks from Redrock and Squatters called "Epic Brewing Co". They are a bottle shop only. The have made some excellent beers Copper Cone is one of my new personal favorite beers in Utah.

I had beers from Epic Brewing from New Zealand at the San Diego Fair Festival of Beer...don't shrug it off...it's the biggest festival west of the GABF and they had an incredible # of beers there this year.

In any event, the NZ Epic brewed some incredible lagers...and I mean INCREDIBLE and while the beer servers were only volunteers, we really hoped they'd man up and send some beers to the US!

oh and if I was in SLC, I'd go to squatters...Jennifer Talley/Tally is the bomb!

I agree Jen Talley is the bomb! She has taken the time to let me come in share my homebrew and tatse and critique my beers. She has given me multiple pointers. I think that she is really producing beer at a level right now in utah, that hasnt been reached before.

I stopped in at Squatters last June, on the way back from NHC. It was really late, and our hotel was across the street. I thought it was awesome. I even told the server that I heard Jennifer Talley on the BN and that's why we went to SLC in the first place.

I was there, and Squatters, Epic, and The Bayou all rocked. Jason, the brewer at Squatters downtown, was nice enough to show me around the brewery too. Cool folks and great beer.
