Brewtarget's IBU count way off compared to Promash

Sun Jul 31, 2016 3:42 pm

I've used Promash for years, but recently downloaded Brewtarget because it's free and has sorghum as an ingredient. I created a recipe for a 2.5 gallon 1.056 batch and noticed the IBUs were really high. I decided to put the same hop bill into Promash and the IBUs were roughly half of what Brewtarget showed (I'm assuming 0.89 IBU/GU = 89 IBU in Brewtarget vs 48 IBU in Promash). I confirmed both applications are using the Rager formula.

I think you are reading it wrong. The Bitterness is listed in the top one as 50.2 IBU and the Promash one is 48.1. I don't think you would notice the difference between those, so the difference is probably irrelevant.

The IBU/GU is IBUs divided by gravity points, so 50.2/56 (= 0.8964).
