Counter Pressure Filler beer line length

Sat Dec 08, 2012 10:19 am

Does it matter?

The lines to my picnic taps are 5-6' long, to reduce the pressure and speed of the pour, but with a cp filler, couldn't a shorter line be used, since you're essentially controlling the flow with the pressure release valve?

I have a leftover piece of new 3/16 bev line that's just 25" long. Would it work, or would the pressure just be too high, and result in a lot of foam?

Thanks

I think that you would need more than that, could be wrong tho. The beer gun uses 10', so that is what I am used to. Side note, it helped me a ton to have the beer super cold too, as close to 30 as I can get it.

Beer gun is not a counter pressure filler. It needs a loooooong line to work well.

OP is right -with a true CP filler, the length of beer line does not matter since the whole system is at the same pressure.

+1
Besides, you want a BIT of foaming so you can cap on it when you pull the filling tube out of the bottle. That thing actually takes up some noticeable volume. I'd often add just a little more beer as I was pulling it out or end up with a low fill level.

Thanks for the input. I caved and bought another 6' of line, just to be safe. Although it sounds like the short line would have worked, I was glad for the extra length, which made handling much easier.

Cheers
