NorCal - South Bay greetings.

Fri Jun 08, 2012 8:37 am

I had to sign up since I listened to my first BN podcast yesterday and JP talked about how he had asshole face.

I started brewing last month in May and this new hobby has now consumed me (along with my bank account). Got started when a cycling teammate of mine mentioned he used to brew his own beer. I thought it be cool to have a craft IPA to drink once I reach the finish line of my first century ride. Since then I have brewed almost every weekend. Im doing all extract brewing right now and looking to move to a all grain set-up my the end of the year.

As for the handle, a buddy of came over after three weekends in a row of brewing and said to me "dude, you be hella brewing!"

Oh yeah for you non-NorCal folks "hella" is a multi purpose word derived from "hell of a lot" is my guess. Funny thing is I never knew this was unique to NorCal till about 3 years ago till my bro-inlaw from LA pointed it out. Once I noticed I was irritating him with the word I made it a point start all of our conversations with "dude Dodgers hella suck".

Enough about my weird vernacular. Here is what's going on in my garage:

Bottled: Century IPA (Mostly Columbus hops, Citra mixed in late)
Primary: American Wheat
Secondary: Red Chair NWPA Clone
On the Deck: Some sort of Sierra Nevada Clone. Haven't decided.

Hey there! Welcome aboard. My best friend lives in Santa Cruz and I love the area. Glad to hear you brewing away as that is the only way to get better. Lots of great folks here with good brewing experience and insight. Don't forget to ask any questions you may have.

Cheers -

Welcome! I caught the bug almost 5 yeast ago and now it's a chronic condition. "Chronic Persistent Homebrew Obsessive Disorder" my doctor called it. ;)

South Bay? Where exactly? I just moved to Santa Cruz (to work in San Jose) a month ago.

Sunnyvale. Funny thing I just came from Santa Cruz! I told my kids I'd take them to the beach but the real reason was the check out Seven Trees Co-op. They have all organic hops but no Columbus or Cascade which i needed. Oh wells kids got the beach and I got some decent ice cream at The Penny.
