This probably isn't a new concept, but the idea came to me while looking at the brew sculpture pics. Could an electric turkey fryer be used as a mash tun/kettle?

I bought one, it takes forever to get 5 gallons to get to a boil. Might be good for a hot water tank. Might be good for 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 gallon batches, and/or brew in a bag.

I use a 1650 watt turkey deep fryer element with my kettle. It will keep 7g of wort at a low boil but it does take forever to get it there. But I brew indoors so I just put it on the stove too and it cuts the time down dramatically. Comparable to a propane burner. Also is very nice because it has a temp controll nob. It's not very accurate (8 ish degree swing) but I can turn it on befor I go to work so when I get home it's at temp. It take me all of 5 minutes after I get home to mash it. Fantastic. By its self it's only good for small batches but with a stove it's great

I used a turkey fryer for quite some time, but now that I'm doing 10 gallon batches it's time to upgrade. I actually could use some recommendations. I'm a big fan of craigs list so really I'm just curious about what specs I should be looking for. For 5 Gallons batches though a turkey fryer works.
