Found a beer buddy at work. He likes the good beers! He told me about a time he was under the weather and sent his wife to get “something” dark. She got to the liquor store and asked the clerk for the darkest beer they carried. She brought home a 6-pack of Lucky U IPA! HA! We had a good chuckle about it. He said it was a good beer, but it wasn’t the stout or Porter he was looking for. I then knew that he had some beer common sense. Perfect.
I told him about the Brewing Network and how it is all about brewing and drinking good beers. I even gave him fair warning that the Session gets a bit crazy at the tail end of the show.
I went into work yesterday and just gave me this look. Shaking his head, he said,” I was wondering about what kind of guy that “Dan” is. Now I know”. He told me that he listened to the stream on Sunday morning while cooking breakfast for his son of 1.5 years. Apparently, the show started with a bang! Something about someone rode a Vespa to a biker bar and was giving hand-jobs with their mother. Something like that. Also, some one went to a place where they made “retard” chairs. Not regular retard chairs, but the ones that have the “blow twice for left, blow once for right”, kind of retard chairs.
How could I have warned him about that? Can’t say that I caught that show. He also asked me what DME was. He said the guy from Sierra Nevada was talking about making yeast starters and such.
He’s hooked, by the way. Luckily. He got the humor!
He has made one batch of beer with a guy that was a “Nazi”. He said the guy had him soaking things in bleach overnight and made him wear gloves and all kinds of silliness. He made him scrub things using concentrated bleach. Yikes.
I told him that there would be none of that when we got to brewing up a batch, once I get out.
He is also one of the supervisors! Yes!
Damn, I can’t wait to get out!
Working 60 hours, a week, too! The days are melting away!

Oh man. I think I feel your excitement. The guy I work with isn't a brewer, but he's a wine maker who knows he'll eventually get around to making beer. We talk about fermentation all the time, it's a great exchange of information.

When I got to work yesterday, he said he went on craigslist and found a Northern Brewer deluxe starter kit, with better bottles for $75. It comes with a kettle, 48 bottles, and a damn extract kit! The seller said that he made 2 batches and it “wasn’t for him”.
He asked me if it was a good deal. I told him it sure was! It sounds like he is going to dive right into it. He even said, “Hopefully I’ll have couple batches ready for when you get out”.
He also mentioned that he wants to make a “sinister” oatmeal stout. Anyone have a recipe that fits the bill?
I told him to get registered on the forum and take a look around. So, be on the lookout for Moth Man. I will let him explain that.
Cheers!

One of the guys I work with has been getting my homebrew for about a year or so. On his birthday a couple weeks ago, his wife surprised him with a Brewer's Best starter kit. He's got his first extract batch in bottles, and is already talking about building an AG system. Never had anybody to brew with before, nice how that sometimes works out... What's the anticipated release date, snocapt? I'll need to get out to Alex one of these days...

That might work out for you Fierce... get a brew buddy that you can go over there and brew with, they you won't have to brew with a bartending jigger and Bic lighter any more...

Lookin at mid-April. Yes, you need to come on down, we'll brew up a batch or 2. I have 2 burners and a couple kettles. I have a line on a keggle, so I may have that when I get out, too. Perhaps we can brew up a batch like afterlab and I did. We made it here and I sent it with him.

Hey, speaking of which, there is talk of me possibly going to Minnesota over the summer. We should brew, or at least drink.
