Its been almost 14 years since I've seen my father - almost every year around the holidays I write a note to him trying to end the silence but I never send it.

I think this is the year that I really send the letter.

I'm writing this post for two reasons - #1 is to try and work up the courage to contact my father

#2 is to get my story out there so other people don't do the same thing that my family has done

I don't even know if my father is still alive - I had and older brother and a younger brother but lost contact with them when the family break up happened - its been even longer since I've spoken to them

Lucille Ball is quoted as saying "Id rather regret the things I've done then the things I haven't done" - I can't explain how much meaning that has in my family after 14 years of silence

Send the note. I don't know the whole story, nor do I need to. On earth will never be perfect, humans are flawed. But things can always get better.

Bikefoolery.

do it

My father died in 2009 after we hadn't spoken for about 18 years. He had been dead for over a month before I found out. I was contacted by his lawyer.

hopefully he isn't a psychopath (clinical definition=him) asshole tlike mine. he is dead as far as i'm concerned! he did it to himself, so i don't lose sleep over only a few people in the family even aknowledge his existance. i don't have any kids because i can't afford any and to break the cycle of abuse... don't want to be avoided by my immediate/extended family, how you were raised is how you will rear your kids.

i suspect in your case, it was more typical family fueding. good kluck with it.

Ya man do it! And if it doesn't turn out the way you hoped, I always say Family is not shared blood. It's the ones you love and share your life with. Hope the best for you brother.
