Never mind, Denny Conn actually did answer my question, I just missed it the first time:

"The advantages of batch sparging are no (or reduced) worries about pH because you’re not continually diluting the buffering power of the grains, inefficient lautering systems don’t really affect the extraction rate since the sugars from the grain are in solution, a mashout is seldom necessary (though may still be desirable) since the wort will be in the kettle more quickly and enzymes denatured by boiling, and extraction rates that range from slightly less to slightly more than fly sparging. The more inefficient your lautering system is for fly sparging, the bigger the gain in extraction you’ll see from batch sparging."

So, I might be investing some time in a manifold and giving this a try. And, there is always BIAB. Good to have options.

I did three extract batches, attended an all grain class at my LHBS, where they taught fly sparging about the same time I heard and read about batch sparging on Denny's site. Did my first all grain batch sparging with 29PPG, and never looked back. Now if I can only figure out how I got that many points since, I'ld be doing great!
