krizwit, I have been using this probe for a long time, and it is still dead on at boiling and on the cold end as well. It is one of the rubber covered wire models, not the metal braid, if ya know what i mean. It is crimped pretty well and I have never had any issues with it. :jnj
Its just a cheap one from Target, I think, I cant remeber where I got it, it's been so long.
Peace Brotha!

I used the Polder for a while and liked it. It can't take getting too moist though.
Recently it has an existential crisis and decided that temperature was no longer of any significance. That seemed to sort itself out when I let it dry out.
But it was never the same and last nighte it went on a tea time of the soul reporting wildly high temps.

I'm ordering an Oregon Scientific wireless. It's supposed to do phone sex with the user or something like that.

I got used to the temperature alarm and the timer of the Polder the OS unit has that also but lets you wander around the place, take a nap, copulate with the neighbor's daughters etc,, while keeping you appraised of the mash temp and the times you set in the timer.

The Thermapen while much vaunted for it's accuracy and speed needs you to be there and the only thing it does is tell temperature. For a hundred bucks I should think it might open a flip top and pour you a beer too.

Of course by the time I'm done buying 3 or 4 lesser thermometers and finding out what makes them fail, I'll have spent the same $$.
