Re: What do you do with your used grain? ?

When I first started brewing all-grain, I tried to feed the spent grain to my buddy's pigs and my Mother in law's chickens, but they did not care for it, and it started to stink and had to be thrown away. I compost it now.

I save my grain for a farmer friend of mine. He feeds it to his chickens, pigs and cows. I asked him how he feeds it to his critters and he told me that he just dumps it in the feed troughs and doesn't bother to blend it in with other feed. He likens it to giving his animals a gourmet meal as opposed to the normal home cooking they are used to and they go wild for it.

Cheers,

Last week, I emailed my neighborhood list to see if anyone wanted it. I got a few responses - some people want to compost it, some want to feed it to chickens.

I wonder if the apple pie treatment from American Pie would work?

My wife's friend is apparently some comestic and beauty expert, and she takes some of the grains and use it for some DIY exfoliac product. She says it works, maybe it just the beer talking lol
