Brewing Network Syllabus

Mon Feb 21, 2011 1:35 pm

Hey fellas, I was just listening to the latest Session and J mentioned that some new listeners consider The Session an advanced homebrew show. I see where they are coming from and I think that J explained his view point well. Here is a potential solution for new and more seasoned listeners alike. What about a Session Syllabus? I know that the site has a great search option, but this is something different. We could develop something like a course syllabus for the newbies according to topic and skill level. For example, we could have a sticky in the forum that would list out something like:

The first couple of JZ appearances on the Sunday Show should be required listening for any new brewer.

While in a semi-comatose state doing some boring shit at work today, I was thinking the same sort of thing. I love the idea, but being a generally lazy SOB, I'll let someone else do the work.

I think it's a good idea. When I got started listening to the BN, I was already experienced, and decided to listen to all the shows chronologically before listening live, but that was my choice. For people just starting out that are looking for information on particular topics, such a sticky would likely be quite useful.

How do you think this is filling out? Additions? Corrections?

I would also recommend the Brew Strong series as reference material to re-enforce and expand on the topics mentioned above. I would also suggest taking this topic in a flow that replicates a typical brew session, such as sanitation, milling and brew prep, water prep, mashing, lautering and sparge, boiling, cooling, fermentation, lagering, packaging, and serving. This could serve as a general outline as a progression to make more real the brewing process.

My two cents,

I wonder if they can be tagged in the listing so the listeners can go to the download page, use the search tag cloud to look for those podcasts.

If you take what I post here literally, you're retarded. I'm here to fuck around, have a good time, and learn about beer. You mean nothing to me and I mean nothing to you.
