Mash tun question

Just got the mash tun put together and the nipple was not a tight fit in the hole in the cooler. Should I have wrapped it with teflon tape to make it a tight fit? Or is the the washers and gasket from the cooler that make it water tight? I put water in the cooler and let it set for about an hour and there was no leak.

Yeah, that white gasket and the teflon tape make it water tight... and I have found that mine will sometimes leak with cold water a little, but never with hot... just use two wrenches to tighten things down.
