I had an idle thought and figured before I go out and do it to ask the BN Army a question: has anyone, as far as you know, ever turned a corny into a fermenter conical? As far as I can tell it wouldn't be all that difficult with a little welding knowhow. Just slice the bottom of the corny off, slap on a cone, and attach a dump valve & frame to keep the puppy upright.
Sure you could get fancy and add a sampler/racking arm and maybe even coil it with a refrigeration-tubing heat exchanger and a neoprene jacket & thermoprobe sensor, but even a basic setup would theoretically give you nice low footprint 5 gallon fermentation chamber with the capability to co2 prefill and pump without worry about air contact. So has anyone ever done this before, or am I just crazy to consider it?
~Edit~
Another thing to consider: The only real thing I'd be worried about is the downward pressure from the narrowed chamber and it's effect on yeast, but at 5 gallons would that even really be a concern?
