Vinnie's Blind Pig

Tue Nov 04, 2008 11:43 pm

After a few emails back and forth with Vinnie this is what I brewed earlier this year. A combo of the Morebeer recipe and what info Vinnie gave up to me. They dont use oak anymore, but Vinnie said he uses some Simcoe and Amarillo now. I did 10 gallons, oaked 5 gallons and non oaked the other carboy. I liked the both, but the oak did smooth out some of the bitterness. I may kick up the amount of Carapils a 1/4 of a pound next time

Thanks! After drinking a bunch of Pliny and Blind Pig side by side, I think I like Blind Pig better. I've brewed Vinnie's Pliny recipe and had great luck in competitions with it, but it is too damned expensive to brew. I have been looking for the Blind Pig recipe to give it a try. At least I have all the hops for this one.

It tasted great and was a big hit on tap at my house. I won a ribbon in a few competitions for it.

Thanks Guys!! I love the Blind Pig, it was the first craft beer I ever had. I used to go to his brewery in Temecula and get growlers filled. :aaron

Well then the oaked version is probably closer to that then.

I have not had good luck with oak chips. Weird flavors that mello with time (6 months). Maybe I leave them in to long. Just have never been happy with them.
