Error in NHC scoring...

Thu May 17, 2007 7:38 am

It's not enough of an error to get me in the top three, but a simple addition error cost me 2 points in the Nationals. Not knowing the process of the judges, but aren't the score sheets checked? Is it safe to assume that math is not part of the BCJP Judges program?

BTW, Beth Zangari (Queen of Beer and Past TBN Session guest) wrote an additional paragraph on the back of the score sheet to further explain her answer - Truely appreciated and helpful. And Beth can add.

Typically, the stewards check the sheets as they take em back to the scoring table, where depending upon the mayhem they should be checked as well.

Doesn't mean a sheet or two might not get missed, but you get the idea.

I do have to agree with drewbadge but every now and then some newbie stewards might drink just as much if not more than a judge. Just an observation.

At my previous comp, I was a steward and I double checked all the math, doing the big "total" scores with my cell phone's calculator.

I was a steward at a competition and I double checked all the scores with a calculator. Most of the judges were cool with it and just corrected the error. One judge wanted to argue a bit, I had to explain basic addition a bit loudly and he backed down and corrected the error.

on one of mine I got no score for mouthfeel, not a big deal as I got a 29 and at most it could have pushed it to 31.5 when the scores were averaged

the judge had written so much for the previous category that he went into the scoring area for mouthfeel .. easy mistake and I'm happier with the couple extra lines of feedback than I would be with the couple of extra points
