CTZ & Cascade (i)pa

Hey all,

I want to make a hoppy pale ale/ipa using a bunch of CTZ and cascades that I have, and was wondering if anyone has any particular recipe suggestions. I'm thinking that I probably want it in the 4.5-5% area, but not be just hops.

I was thinking maybe something like this:

5lb Maris Otter
3.5lb Pilsner
0.5lb caramunich
0.5lb carapils
(maybe some cararye, maybe some wheat?)

(some bittering, probably oil extract) @60
2oz cascade @ whirlpool (20min)
2oz ctz @ whirlpool (20min)

1st dryhop:
3oz cascade
2oz ctz

or maybe break the dry hop into 2 stages.

I also have an 1oz of galaxy that I could toss in the dry hop which might be good. The last time I brewed with it, I didn't get a lot of what I remember as galaxy flavor/aroma. Everyone that tried it said that it tasted like a sierra nevada pale ale.

Anyway, I'm just spit balling so any suggestions would be grand.

You really can't go wrong mixing CTZ and Cascade. All of these hops complement each other well. I'd use the Galaxy as a 5 or 10 min addition for some hop flavor. Your hop bursting scheme will work well overall.

Keep your grain bill nice and simple. Too many things tend to muddy it up.

What you proposed looked good to me in general, though.

+1. "C" hops play well with each other even if some of them start with the letter "A". :-)
