PB2 PEANUT BUTTER MILK STOUT

I saw a lot of threads on PB2….a dehydrated peanut butter. I have 4 jars…rather small…I think about 5 ozs each. I want to make a chocolate peanut butter milk stout. My girlfriend loves candy beer….I just did my own recipe on a crème brulee clone….it came out pretty tasty. I was going to brew the Deschoutes obsidian stout as the base…add cocoa powder like in JZ’s chocolate in brewing classic styles….add some lactose to add sweetness to the peanut butter powder. I plan on adding PB2 to the boil but I want to add some to the secondary. I was going to try mixing it with water in canning jars and boiling the jars for a while to sanitize. Any tips or suggestions? Anyone ever work with this product?

I've never used PB2 but the winner of our last Iron brewer comp made a peanut butter stout with natural peanut butter. He poured off the oil and added some to the boil and also added some to the fermentor. The beer was phenominal. It had a roasted peanut character that complemented the stout flavors perfectly. Surprisingly his head retention wasn't that bad either. Don't know if this helps but there it is.

I have made chocolate stouts with bakers powdered chocolate with some success. My wife loves Reese's PB cups. I made a dry stout and added chocolate hazelnut and PB extracts to taste. Winner! Extracts from American Spice company.
I also had the thought of adding PB and lowering the temp after ferment to 28F then scoop the PB oil off and keg. Another thought was the dehydrated PB. In the end, the extract was perfect to add to taste.

I just dosed a brown porter with peanut butter extract...it tastes good...similar to rogues hazelnut brown but obviously peanut butter and a touch more roasty

How did you add it and when did you add it?
I added it to the keg.
I took 8 oz of beer, and one of those oral syringes that measure in mL. Then I started with 1 mL and worked my way down to the blend I was happy with. I didn't trust the accuracy of that syringe

....so I took what it had read as 1/4 mL and put it on my gram scale...then its just doing the math up from their. In my case it was 0.2 g/8 oz. So 16 g/5 gal. I added a little less since I knew I had slightly less than 5 gal.

---- so you actually used one of the oil extracts? What brand did you go with and where did you pick it up?
