I thought i was going to be getting a bunch of centenntial, but i just found im going to be getting like 7pounds galena......WTH am i going to do with all that galena? Centential is great flavor and aroma so i was going to do a few 10g batches of all late-hop IIPAs but galena? i have limited experience with galena but my understanding is there pretty clean and not very good for flavor nor aroma. any suggestions?

im glad im getting a good deal but i wouldent have spent the handing and shipping costs for galena

I haven't done an all Galena beer, but googling around for info, I came across a few threads on other forums that are like this:

In a nutshell, they offer clean bittering (though they give a resiny perception when young which fades after a few weeks), and a nice citrusy/earthy flavor, but low aroma. Most folks that used them with additional other late hops liked the combos.

They have high alpha (11-13%), so be careful not to overbitter with too much in your early additions.

I think it sounds like a decent hop, particularly if you add a high-aroma variety like Amarillo or Cascade.

I've used Galena hops in a couple IPA's. Great bittering hop and it does get better with age.

galena is SERIOUSLY ~14%!!!!! 4oz in 10g RIS with 4oz willamette both for 70 min boil was nutz..

Galena is neutral; almost tea-like, in my opinion. It reminds me of a single-hop German Tradition beer that I had once, from Boundary Bay.

Don't over-bitter it and you'll get a nice, non-Northwest-American IPA.

I have also used Galena for bittering in a huge RIS I did about 4 years ago. It seemed quite neutral with a definitely some resinous qualities to it. Fairly clean hop as well. Reminds me of Magnum to a degree.

If you have extra, maybe you could trade some hops with them to get some variety? Just a thought....

If they're 14%, I bet their a strain called Super Galena, which is a new, higher alpha variety of Galena.

I'd brew a single hop beer with them to figure out if you like them for late/dry hopping. If not, keep what you'll use and trade them for other things you need, like other hops, grain, or gear.

I just used some galena in my first recipe. It seems like it has very clean bittering taste (I'm only on third day). I expected more bitter as I calculated my ibu and it was 70. I was surprised to taste very little bitterness. What you can do is brew something highly alcoholic so it will cover the bitterness. Or you can add ur hops later. I boiled mine only for 35 min.
