Mike,

Your tasty APA recipe at http://beerdujour.com/Recipes/Tasty%20APA.html
lists a water profile which includes Mg at 118ppm. Is that a typo? Should it be 18 ppm?

Thanks,
JD

plugging in to palmers spreadsheet... i get -90 for residual alkalinity. is this right? you do not add any carbonates to the water?

Oops. I tried to match Mike's profile water and couldn't get the magnesium up without having too much sulphate, so I just targeted the sulphate with as much epsom salts as I could. It's a good thing it worked out that way! Still, I ended up with 68ppm Mg and didn't question it. I guess I should have. The beer's excellent (only 6 bottles left after 2 weeks from the keg) and no bad digestive side-effects. Yikes!

I made the Tasty APA as well and got in the ballpark of his water profile (minus the magnesium typo). Fantastic beer although my terminal gravity was lower than desired with US-05 yeast. Mine came out a tad thin so I have adjustments to make next time.

I recall reading (some time ago at least) Tasty uses that same water profile for all of his beers. Is that still true or do you tweak your target water to suite the beer recipe?

I have started using other profiles but a limited set.
