From Ordinary to Best Bitter

I brewed the BCS Ordinary Bitter recipe a few months ago and I loved it. It only lasted 9 days... So I brewed it again. Since then, I got the barley crusher and adjusted my gap to .035". Ok... My recipe was adapted to 70% and I hit 81.5%. BUT.... shot for the very high end on IBU's so I'm still within style.

Needless to say, I'm too high for Ordinary Bitter so I brewed a Best Bitter. :)

Looking forward to it.

I ran into the same sort of problem the last time I brewed a mild. I overshot the expected efficiency so I upped the hops a little and turned it into a brown ale. Taking a preboil gravity is a good thing to do to catch this problem.

Yep! I was 6 points high in my preboil. But I knew I 3 tiers of bitters to work with. I had 4.5% Goldings and 5.5% goldings. I mixed and matched to hit 34 IBU against a 1.045 OG.

I like an ESB too. Good luck. I like the Ordinary for the session beer aspect of it. I can throw back several Imperial Pints of that.

Yeah, I did a similar thing a few weeks ago. I was planning on a Special Bitter and overshot it a tad. Now I have, what I've named, the "Accidental ESB"! Oh well, it's a great beer, so I'm not complaining!
