Griffin Spit IPA

Has anyone out there brewed the Griffin Spit IPA?
I am planning on doing it soon.
I think it was part of the National Big Brew a few years ago.
I am looking to get a big dose of the tangarine citrus that Summit is known for.
It is hop bursts of 2 oz. Summit at 20 min, 10 min & 1 min, 6 oz total with no bittering hops at all.
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.
Fritz

This is what the little trolls running around in the interweb tubes brought back:

thanks Nate.
If anyone has any feedback on this flavor profile or opinions, plase pass it on.
If not I will venture forwarded and report back in a few months.
Good day :unicornrainbow:

That sounds like an interesting beer for sure. Lot of Munich. Why is the hop utilization exactly the same at 20, 10, and 5 minutes (I'm guessing it's the calculator)? Actually...if you divide it by the amount used the utilization is assumed to be the same for dry hopping too. I'm sure it's probably too difficult to measure on a homebrew scale, but that seems a bit strange to me. I'd like to try the Summit hop sometime, maybe I'll give this one a go.

It's listed in AAUs, not IBUs. 1 ounce of Summit at 19% Alpha is 19 AAUs if it's added at 90 minutes or at flameout. It's not really a measure of anything.

I've not brewed this recipe. I would assume that since this recipe was brewed for the National Big Brew, that it is better than a lot of the shitty recipes you could get from the web.

Hi All,
Here is an update to the Griffin Spit clone.
I altered the base grain recipe to make it a bit lighter in color and maltyness and swapped out a little bit of the hops. The beer came out very favorful with an easy going bitterness, but more bitter than I thought. The aroma is amazing and the Summits yield a nice tangarine tartness to it with none of the oniony/garlicky flavor I keep hearing about.
I am stoked with the results and this experiment was a great learning experience.
I will probably do this one again and will add one oz of hops at 60 as well, (normally I do 2)
Here is the hop schedule I used.

20 min. 2 oz Summit
10 min.2 oz Summit
1 min. 1 oz Summit + 1 oz Amarillo
dry hop 14 days 1 oz Amarillo
dry hopped 7 days Summit

Cheers.

All times are UTC - 8 hours
