Basic recipe.

Hi all,
I am looking for a simple recipe. Here's the premise: Start with barley, malt it and brew it! Do any of you experienced brewers have any idea of a simple recipe? According to the article in BYO, i could make pale malt (2 and 6 row), crystal malt, Munich-style malt, corn malt and wheat malt. Use of a basic (safeale)yeast and minimal hops.

a pale ale is a good start some 2 row and a little crystal, cascades and some US56 yeast


for about 5% abv beer try this....depending on your system

9lbs 2 row
1/3 lb Crystal 60

mash for 1 hour

boil for 60 mins
add 1 oz crystal 60 mins
1/2 oz 30mins
1/2 oz at flame out

Use 2 sashets of US56
ferment out, bottle and enjoy

it will be a good session beer for a starter, maybe not quite to style....but WTF says you have to brew to style

That's exactly what I was looking for! What temperature should I mash at? Remember folks, you are dealing with a newbee here, I only made 5 batches of all extract in the past 5 months, I'm not very knowlegeable about this stuff but I'm anctious to learn.

i would be looking at the middle range here, around 66 C will be good, that way it will finish at araound 1010
