Thanks Tasty!!
This recipe is based on the B3 kit which was designed with Matt's input. I made the beer from the B3 version and it had way too much oak flavor. The second time I made it I switched from Western to French oak and cut the amount in half. That produced a very close clone. The oak flavor in Firestone Walker DBA is very much in the background but still an important part of the flavor profile. I tend to extract a lot of color from my mash so I shot for a SRM of 12 and it was a dead match with DBA which comes in at 16 SRM. I used BKG but if you can get some Styrian, split the 5 minute addition. I wanted a 5.5% beer but a 1.048 OG would be closer to DBA at 5%. As always, allow for your efficiency. Mine is low.
