I'm going to brew this today. Thanks for the recipe. I don't have Chinook so I think I'll sub Columbus. Anyone think that's a mistake? I'm also not clear weather to dry hop the Amarillo and Simcoe when I add the yeast or after it stops and I add the other hops. I would think to add them after primary finishes.

One other thing I may or may not do next time is cut back on the Chinook by 1/8 or 1/4 of an oz. As for the dry hops, that is a mistake on my part, it should be secondary for the hops. I kegged mine though and I always dry hop in the keg.

That's what I thought about the dry hopping. In the keg it is. What about the substituting of Columbus for Chinook?

Re: Vinnie's Blind Pig

I apologize I know this may not be the correct place to ask it but is there any way someone can guide me on how to make this into a mini mash (approx 3.5-4 lbs of grain)? I'm fairly new to brewing and don't have full grain equipment and don't particularly care to do full extract recipes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Brandon wrote:After a few emails back and forth with Vinnie this is what I brewed earlier this year. A combo of the Morebeer recipe and what info Vinnie gave up to me. They dont use oak anymore, but Vinnie said he uses some Simcoe and Amarillo now. I did 10 gallons, oaked 5 gallons and non oaked the other carboy. I liked the both, but the oak did smooth out some of the bitterness. I may kick up the amount of Carapils a 1/4 of a pound next time

Brandon,
I just killed a keg brewed from your recipe ( sans oak)
I don't know if I originally found the recipe here but it is the third time ive brewed this recipe over the last few years. It's pretty much the only spot on "clone" recipe that ive randomly found on the internet.
shit is legit, you should contact CYBI, it is definitely a beer worthy of the show

I really enjoy this recipe, I have only had Blind Pig twice. Once at the tasting table @ GABF and a bottle last year a friend sent me. This is the closest I can get to it. The oak adds an interesting layer to it, bu like Vinnie said they stopped doing that after the original equipment from Blind Pig was sold.
