Anti Foaming Agent~~~~ HOLY CRAPPOLY

I brewed a ten gallon batch of hefe yesterday. (Yes Bub I used 3068) I usually am fighting boil overs at the first part of the boil. Not this time!!

I put three drops of Fermcap-S into my boil kettle with about 13 gallons of preboil wort and completely forgot about boil overs. (Drinking was involved) ((Heavy Drinking)) I don't even think the boil foamed up at all. Again, there was a certain haze that hung over the brewday.

I was kinda worried about using this stuff, I was expecting a liquid, but what came out was pretty viscous. It seems to work as advertised.

I did not put any additional drops into my fermenter, I am wanting to see if the boil addition keeps the Hefe from blowing off. (usually hefe yeasts are very aggressive fermenters.) More to follow as the fermentation progress and how it affects head retention of the finished beer.

Update!!

The active part of the fermentation has subsided. I havent opened the bucket lid to look, but I put 5 gallons in a regular bucket fermenter (7 Gallons ?) and I had nothing come out of the air lock except CO2.

I am holding judgement to try the finished hefe, but so far I am impressed.

+100. I use it in the boil every time (I fill a 14 gallon brew pot to within 3 inches of the rim) and I use it in my starters every time. I use it in the fermenters for heavy foamers like WLP 300/WY3068 or big monster beers that are 1.080+.

I love it. And the head retention on by finished beer is completely, utterly unaffected.

Yeah, I love this stuff. I usually forget about it until it's too late, but when I remember to use it, its awesome. I had 5 gallons in a 5 gallon carboy, only about 1 1/2 inches of head space, and had no problems coming out the airlock. I always have issues with this carboy bubbling out the airlock!
