Corking question

When a cork is put in a bottle is it tite enough to keep carbonated beer in side?
Or will beer/ co2 escape while the cork adjusts its self.
I'm new to corking and want to force carb then fill cork and cage. Any thoughts?

I'm somewhat new to corking. I have an Italian floor corker and have done 5 cases of farmhouse sours. They came out nicely. With cork n cage you need belgian bottles and a floor corker and the right kind of corks. Using the wrong corks in the wrong corker causes a crease or slice down the side of the cork.

But yes, of course they hold CO2. Personally, I would not waste my time effort and money on torce carbing to cork n caged bottles. Prime and bottle them the old fashioned way.

Thank you. Do you know of the "economy floor corker 70$". Is it good? You can google it. Should I go with the Italian floor corker 130$ pluss shipping.

I've been looking into corking/caging a batch for a while now and my local HBS will rent out their floor corker designed for beer corks for about 20 bucks so I'd look into that route if you can before buying a corker. Unless you plan on corking many batches... but yes, a cork will hold the carbonation just fine from everything I've read. If you're force carbing just be sure to bump up those carb levels a little bit as some gas will escape during the fill.

Ive not used it. Mine was about $130. So if you buy the $70 one and it sucks, then buy the $130 one, it actually cost you $200. I went straight to the one I knew I needed and saved the $70 for other stuff.

Ok I bought the Italian floor corker, corks, cages. I want to bottle a couple to give as gifts. What do I need to know? How do I prep the corks?
