Cask Ales

Does anyone keg their beers in a cask? I just had my first cask ale today and I loved it. Chocolate bourbon stout. :aaron

I usually only do it for parties. I've done a bitter, ginger bread spiced Brown ale, and a stout so far. It's a nice break from the usual kegged beer but has to be drank quickly

I have done two Braggots in a 5 gallon oak keg Christmas gift from my brother.

1st was a 1 gallon light beer I added 4.5 gallons of water and honey to with a finished ABV around 8%. FG around 1.001 It sat in a bucket for one month then transferred to the keg, dry hopped and primed. Kegged for one month. Served at our home brewers meeting. I lost about 1/2 gallon due to evaporation and the pressure in the keg. We drank two gallons at the meeting. Plus sampled 30 other beers. It was a good night.

2nd batch in the same keg. 2 gallon amber beer with 8 Oz. Maltodextrine added to 3.5 gallons of water and honey. FG around 1.005, ABV 8.5%. One month in a bucket then same procedure of dry hopping and primed in the keg. One month in the keg. Similar amount of loss when served and balance transferred to jugs. I preferred this one to the drier version.

The keg bung and tap might make it through batch 3 before they need replaced.
I sterilized after batch 1 by placing a propane torch in the tap hole and heating the keg to 160 degrees. Refilled with water and sulfite tablets. Tap and bung soaked in no rinse sanitizer.
