i'm working on designing my 55 gallon drum system (still) and i'm considering larger ID lines. it seem to me if you go with 1" lines you want to step up the fittings, because decreasing down to a basic QD is going to shoot to hell all the benefits of the larger lines.

so i'm considering tri clovers, but i know nothing about them. i figure i'd still use silicone based hosing and clamp the ends to a triclover adapter, and have an adapter welded to my vessels (or to a ball valve or whatever). anyone have any sage advice? cheap sources? anyone?

thanks henning, i pm'ed that guy with some specs. those look pretty nice and the price isn't bad at all. it just seems silly to start a 55 gallon system up and use 1/2" tubing. seems like it would take all day to do anything.

Not cheap, but http://www.stpats.com/index.htm has lots of TC fittings.

I know he was looking for cheap. Yes stpats has tri clovers but shitty service. If your going that route just order from more beer pro and get them from a company with good service.

Man, if you can afford it tri-clamps are the way to go. a little difficult to get used to at first but once you get the hang of it they go on and off like a snap. I will be going with them for my 1 bbl system as well. I think the best advantage to the tri-clamp is being able to clean and sanitize every piece. Good luck on the cheap sourcing though. You may want to check w/ any breweries in your area. Alot of breweries still have the old style clamps that are actually three pieces. Most guys are phasing these out because they are a bit more cumbersome to put on and are willing to just give them away. That's how I've collected most of mine.
