Whirlpool chiller & hops

When you run your whirlpool chiller, do you just let the hops (pellet) flow through your pump? Or do they need to be filtered out? I have been using whole hops & filtering with a screen, but am having trouble with break material plugging it and am looking for another solution. Not hop bags, though, I don't like 'em.

Hop pellets will flow through the pump. What are you using to connect the hoses to the pump?

I use brass quick connects from McMaster Carr & 1/2" silicone hose for all of my lines.

You shouldn't have any problem then. The only time I had trouble clogging with pellets is when I used those plastic disconnects that have the x in the center. Once I drilled them out the pellets flowed through the pump and hoses just fine.

Yeah, I've heard of the cross in those plastic jobs collecting particles before.
But for me, in the next batch, pellets it is.
Thanks Diver.

I have been having trouble with my brass QDs getting clogged. That's why I am redesigning my RIMs hose connections and changing over to ball valves.
But, my last few big problem brews have been Belgians....the peels are clogging.

I tried brewing a Southern Brown Ale with pellets & no screen with no problems at all. I can hardly wait to use up my stash of frozen whole hops & start scrabblin' for pellet hops like every body else.
