Make it shine by using a very fine grit 3M polishing/buffing pad. Pneumatic rotary sanders/buffers are great for this.

As for the outlet, I'd recommend that you have a 1/2" ID full coupler welded in fairly low on the keg (near the lower seam). The full coupler will allow you to attach a nipple on the outside and some sort of dip tube on the inside. I use a copper elbow.

Get a full port 1/2" ID ball valve for the outlet. Get a 1/2" ID hose barb for attaching tubing.

When you put in the hole for the nipple, be sure the hole is between the holes in the bottom rim. This will keep the valve from getting overly hot.

Also, make sure the keg has vent holes drilled in the top and bottom. You don't want it to blow up like mine did.

Well Just because it was in your bud's garage for 5 years does not make it NOT STOLEN. If I parted out your car that was in My bud's garage for 5 years would it be OK with you?

Take it back to the distributor that sells the beer that was named on the stickers and get the deposit back. While there Explain where you got it and ask if they have any damaged kegs they would trade you. They most likely won't but at least you get the deposit back and can buy one that is not stolen.

I buy damaged kegs for the deposit from a brewery. They are going to the scrap yard anyway for the same price.

As long as it's vented, you're fine.
