I Can Smell the Gloves In My Beer. So, What Do You Use?

For sanitizing, I use Star San and those cheap, yellow gloves you can buy at any grocery store. I can smell the rubbery gloves while I'm working with them; but I never expected them to contribute any noticeable flavor or smell to the beer (why I'm not sure).

Anyways, there's a slight (ignorable but noticeable) rubber smell in my finished beer. I'd forget the gloves if the Star San didn't chew my hands up so much.

What do the rest of you use to protect your hands?

I use latex gloves that I got at Costco for $10/ box of 100.

They don't add anything but they do rip relitively easily.

nitrile gloves, but I work in a chemistry lab and have an unlimited supply of all lab gear needed. but I really like them because they are powder free and don't have any odor whatsoever.

I don't use gloves. I like having my hands chewed up. I like the friction... never mind.

I use the latex free vinyl gloves that look like surgical gloves. Since I am a kitchen manager, I liberate a box from work from time to time. The nitrile gloves also work great. Harbor Freight has them really cheap, far less than what Wal-mart gets for their vinyl/latex gloves.

I use Star-San all the time and I've never used gloves. I never noticed any problems. My hands are fine.

I got thick Nitrile gloves and 8mil thick surgical style nitrile gloves from here:
http://www.labsafety.com/

I also got some Butyl gloves, and the thick gloves resist heat quite well.

They also come in handy during the Holidays--I can hold onto the Turkey or whatever when it's straight out of the oven and hot and slice it with the other hand.

I also LOVE the Ironclad Workforce gloves.
They also have knit Kevlar heat resistant DRY ONLY gloves that allow you to pick up your boil kettle or take heavy casseroles out of the oven.

You may be able to tell, but I don't do ANYTHING around the garage without gloves on...

You may want to opt out of the mailed catalog--they'll send you 600 pages of Lab/Safety Porn a few times a year.
