I go to my parents to meet them before we go out for dinner for my mothers birthday. She says she bought a new computer at a company that was going out. She picked up some other stuff as well. I look at the table, and theres a litttle gem of a pump. She says she bought it for 5 bucks and i could have it for my brewing set up. What a woman! wait, i thought this was her birthday;)

SO heres the stats on the pump.
Label says its a TEEL model 1P579F. Centrifugal pump with a stainless head on it. the head plate says that it is not made for flammable liquids. Its super clean. Im thinking of using it for my single tier sculpture plan for pumping up mash and sparge water. I ran it in the sink and it pumps like its going out of style.

Anyone have any info on this pump? I figure with a stainless head it should hurt, and it would be pre boil.

Allow me to be the first to ask: What did you do to your finger?

I know nothing about that pump and would be worried of using it for anything that is going to touch potentially finished beer.

But an excellent use could be for pumping ice water through your chiller, assuming you are using an IC

Here is the tech/instruction manual for that pump.

Looks like it is only good up to 140° so preboil is a good call. You could also use it for pumping ice water through a chiller.

ahh the nic blood blisters, they feel so great. I was helping my buddy build his composting barrel and pinched it in between the barrel and center rod. A few select choice words could have been heard by neighbor children, if there were any.

I use a CFC so the chiller pump would be out, for now. Unless i feel like blowing more $$ later on.

Heres what im thinking for now. I will use my march brew pump to pump the mash and sparge water, and utilize a grant style set up, and periodically turn this pump on to pump into the boil kettle since its only supposed to be run no more than 15 min at a time. I would then use my march pump to push the beer out from the kettle and through the CFC. hows that sound

+1 What they said ^^^

The other problem as you might have gathered, is that it is not a magnetically coupled impeller - so you can't dial down the flow rate. That, and the 140 max water temp are your limiting factors. I'd save it to push icewater through your CFC (after you used hose water to knock it down as much as you can). Still a cool score.

You could just send it to me and not even worry about it. Thanks mom.
