Mill motors maybe?

Just a couple of motors I aquired from work that were working but making noise. problem is they are 24volt dc motors. I'm not an electrics guru can these be useful as mill motors or would it be easier to use something else.

24 DC is not a problem - you just need a transformer that is rated for that load. What are the specs (RPM, HP, etc)? You can probably adjust the speed down with a beefier version of the triacs that the propeller heads prescribe for your stir plate.

Actually you can't use a transformer. Transformers are only for AC to AC conversions. What you need is a DC power supply. If you list the specs then I could recommend one for you. You probably need something like this...

There is nothing but model numbers on the motors and I haven't been able to find any tech info on them. One does have a sticker that says ccw=170rpm cw=170rpm but that is the only spec I can find. They are motors off of motorized wheelchairs made by invacare. The only thing I have found out is one is a 2pole and one is a 4 pole if that means anything. he he he I said POLE.

I'd try putting a call into invacare. I would assume that they are pulling some pretty good current just judging by there original application.

Not to say you can't make them work but chances are it would be a whole lot easier to purchase a 120vac motor and be done with it.

Try it with 12V... most 24v motors can be run at 12v.
Use a car battery charger and see what you get.

Transformer, power supply.... or as Bub says - "Tomato, Tomato". One of the things that you plug in the wall and DC power comes out. You know what I mean... Did you get off the bus, BR?

No but I'd hate for spott77 to go purchase a transformer and get home only to find out that it won't work. DC is a pain in the ass anyway you look at it.
