Pre-Chillers

I've read some of the posts on pre-chillers, but I can't get a sense for how much they do for you. I was thinking of using my 3gal gott cooler with a 25' copper coil to chill the water. It's never very hot where I live and the temp of my hose water for the IC is about 63 - 65 degrees year round. Is there a benefit for me to use a pre-chiller?

I doubt it is worth the trouble and cost in your case of having cool water for chilling, unless you want to make lagers. Then, you're need to circ ice water though your IC to get it down into the low 50's

I use mine because here in west Tenn the tap water can get a bit warm. I also have access to free ice. I don't need an ice store (

Justin). So that's not an expense for me. I get 5 gallons down to 70F in about 12 minutes. I'm good with that.
