Digital Thermometer

All,

I am looking for a brewing tool but not sure such an item exists. I have been using a digital thermometer w/a wire probe when doing my mash. I have been hanging the probe wire into my mashtun, plugging the probe wire into the unit and screwing on the cooler lid. What I would like to find is a digital, wireless probe that floats (much like the glass thermometers). I recently saw digital thermometers w/remote probes that are used for BBQ’s. BUT, these still have wire probes! I like being able to monitor my mash using a digital thermometer where I can set upper and lower temp alerts. But I’d like to get away from the wire hanging out the top of the mashtun.

Is there such a device?

I don't know if something already exists, but why don't you try sticking an electronic meat thermometer through one of those vinyl coated foam floaty things for your boat keys or something? Might work, might taste like ass... INNOVATE MAN

BUB,
That picture is scary!!!

That is a good idea but I'd still have to open the mashtun to check my temp. I like keeping the lid on the mash so the temp stays constant. I'm anal about stuff like that............

This might be of use: http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr ... B000HBUH0A

You could drill a hole in the lid and put the probe through...

Funny, I've been looking for the same sort of thing. these wireless thermometers seem like there still in the V1 stage. Stick with your wired probe for a bit longer. The technology isn't there yet (that I've seen).

Not to put a damper on innovation but I have to ask...why? I was under the impression that most conversion happens in 7-8 minutes, and almost all "stuff" is done in 30 minutes. Are you doing productive stuff in your spare time?
