does anyone have any experience or ideas about setting up a temperature controller hooked to a computer that can be remotely controlled over the internet? ive been looking and havent found what im looking for in a reasonable price range..
whats the least you can get away with? a temp probe that goes to a usb cable and some software?

The cheapest roll-yer-own would probably be something from dataq (starting at $25) connected to a PC, maybe some signal conditioning & switched output, and then some sort of remote-access software like VNC.
However... I can design & build whatever you need if you'd like a complete design from either off-the-shelf or totally from scratch. Contact me via PM and we'll talk.
I work cheap (as in beer cheap).

Codewritingfool is spot on. Dataq is the cheapest - though for a temp controller you want
this interface as you need some IO to turn on and off the compressor (assuming this is for a freezer). Just remember - have the default/no powerstate to be with the compressor off.
