Blichmann floor burner question

I got one of these burners recently and have been having some trouble getting the flame right. No matter what adjustments I make to the airflow and gas I just can't seem to get it to a nice blue flame. Yellow flames are continuously flowing. I've gotten it to blue flames, but it won't stay like that. I'm not sure if I'm just doing something wrong or missing something. Has anyone else has had this problem?

Might be a stupid comment, but did you make sure to turn on the tank valve & regulator valve in the right order? If you didn't, you won't get enough gas pressure.

Start with both off, and note that "off" might be different directions on each. Turn the TANK valve fully on. Turn the regulator valve on and light the burner. Then increase the regulator to whatever flame you want. Adjust the air intake to produce a decent flame.

Yeah, that is the sequence I used as far as the tank and the reglulator, and then lit it. I just can't get rid of the yellow flames when I'm adjusting the airflow. When I close the airflow completely the flames are still yellow, then if I open it the flames start to lift off. Adjusting the gas flow at the regulator doesn't seem to change that.

Is the propane tank cold? Just looked at your weather and it is 19F.

I would check all of your connections i.e. tank to regulator; regulator to air manifold. Also make sure that the propane tank is not leaking, I've had this issue with a few bad propane tanks.

I've been messing around with it some more and I found that if I cranked up the regulator and left it that way then it seemed to keep the flame blue. I'm thinking maybe I was just keeping the gas flow to low or something and trying too hard to adjust the flame with the airflow.

Thanks for the replies guys.

When your experiencing brewer's "down time", remove the orifice and the air flow dampner. Inspect the interior of the venturi and blow out the interior with compressed air. Spiders love to web up burners! Eliminate the physical burner so that you can determine if you have a need to work on the a propane flow issue. I have used a water bath for my tank when I used propane in the winter. 80 degrees F in one of those plastic livestock buckets with the rope handles. The partial tanks always seemed to cause the most flow touble.
