Hey kids!
I know that some of you have put your plate chiller in the oven at 350 for an hour to sterilize the damn thing. But my question is, does this somehow affect the structural integrity of the thing after a while or should this be fine over and over? I have no concept of metal, welding, space-time, or dark matter.

hmm ... I say do it and let us know if you need a new plate chiller. If it works, I want to know. If it doesn't, I also want to know.

It is easy enough for me to boil water and run boiling water backwards through the chiller which also clears out any crap that has gotten clogged inside. In a pinch ... or a lazy moment, I like the idea of throwing it in the oven. As far as I can tell, the thing is all metal so the oven at 350 shouldn't have any negative impact (well below melting point).

I've run boiling water through this thing plenty of times. However, after letting it sit for some time, I run pbw through it, more boiling water backflowed, starsan it and more hop bits come out. It never seems to be completely clean.

as far as the metal is concerned 350F...is nothing...though I would make sure I run some hot water through it after the oven...don't want all that soot from hop debris in your next beer

No issues with the Metal, just Stainless and Copper, and I think the copper brazing process is done at 800F.......check me though.

This is how I sanitize my plate chiller - over 50 brews, cooked at 200C (390F) - no problems.

You'd probably need 500 - 1400 F before you had a problem.
