Mrs. Zilla and I were sitting around the home today, cleaning up a touch and having a couple of beverages when an unexpected conversation begins. (btw my wife is awesome!!!! not much of a beer drinker, but a really awesome girl!!!)

Mrs Z: You should have some beer ion your kegerator for me to drink this summer

Me: I would love to do that but it may be too late. It has already gotten to hot here (Atlanta) to brew much beer without a ferm fridge, especially the light bodied beers that you would enjoy

Mrs Z: What do you need to do that?

Me: A dedicated refrigerator

Mrs Z: Well, why the Hell don't you have one of those?!?!?!?!?!?

Me: Well, I really didn't think we had a place for one without leaving it right out in the middle of our small condominium. And I was pretty sure you would be very happy about that

Mrs Z: Did you ever mention this to me?

Me: No, it didn't seem very realistic

Mrs Z: Why the Hell not?!?!?(Visibly agitated at this point but in a very good way!!) If you want a ferm fridge why didn't you just say so?!!?!?!?!?!? Of course you can get a fridge!!! We will find a place for it, it may not be ideal, but if you want one you should have one!!!!!

Me: (Jaw on the floor) Well.....SHIOT!!!! I need to find me a fridge!!!!!

We went to Lowe's tonight and looked at a couple of freezerless fridges but don't think we saw one that will hold 2 6.5 gallon carboys. I am sure someone oni this forum has a great ferm fridge, please tell me where to look!!!

That is an epic conversation. My fermentation fridge is just a regular fridge. Freezer portion, what is that I forgot it existed! Oh and it was only $60 from another member in my homebrew club. Unless you really want a brand new one you can find LOTS of fridges on craigslist.

Perhaps another option would be a used commercial stand up cooler. Many equipment houses can set you up for 25 cents on the dollar with stuff that lasts almost forever.

Mine is a regular size refrigerator I got for free. My landlord replaced my fridge a few years back because of broken door shelves. When his maintenance guy delivered the new fridge, I told him I would take care of getting rid of the old one. 8) I tore out the inside door panel that was all broken and replaced it with a big flat plastic panel (also free from a used shower enclosure). The thing works perfect. I'm a tightwad and proud of it!

+1

If you've got the time, hit up craigslist.

This sounds like the conversation someone would have right before their wife decides she wants a $15,000 renovation to their home to fit in the new baby that's just been produced by their neighbor dumping his two gallon load in the wife's babymaker.

Any time a conversation goes this well, I get suspicious. May the deity of your choosing shine it's blessings down on you.

I can see why you would be highly suspicious, but my wife really is wonderful and HIGHLY tolerant of my silly BS and I am assured that there is no ulterior motivation. She's just a really great girl.

If you don't need two carboys, some of the larger "dorm" fridges will hold one, and take up much less space. That's what I use when I need colder control. I did remove the door panel stuff, and was lucky to find one where the back shelf over the compressor isn't too big.
