Finally got around to building my second mill - the first one had the flywheel and went to my friend. That one was based on the BYO flywheel article

This one is the direct drive one as talked about on other threads here:

Nice tutorial! So it seems like the stock setting on the mill was just about perfect?

That's what folks generally say - some may adjust slightly for wheat, but I have not gotten that far along yet to tweak the mill setting.

The linked article's been printed, the wife's objections have been noted, and now I've got plans to make one of those in-line's of my own. Thanks bcmaui!

It works, but I am going to tweak it a little still. The LB wiring box for the switch is pretty packed, I am going to change and use a larger box like I have for the capacitor and move them around a bit. Maybe connect these two boxes together with PVC pipe so the short section of wire does not show and is better protected from getting nicked.

Also - if you can get a switch box with a back outlet rather than a side outlet, you could mount the switch up front on the corner where the sweep comes up and eliminate the other LB and pipe and just have the switch sit there.

Here is a side view of mine.

And here is before I added the motor.

Any mill with a motor is an upgrade - especially instead of the rolling pin crush.

I was first using a drill like you have in your older photo as well, then rigged up a shipping crate with the flywheel

The flywheel model one is actually a bit quieter - the gear reducer is a bit noisy on the new mill. But once you add grain it is all pretty noisy.
