i was thingking about this at work the other day... i was thinking about picking up a corse filter just to take out the big shit. so heres my idea. a 1.5-2 X 5 inch pipe with a with acouple SS scruby pad in there. the ends would be barbed to be hooked up to hoses. i'm thinking of makeing it from try-clover stuff. that would make it slick as shit to use and look good enough to fuck (might just want to take out the scrubys first!) what do you guys think?

and i thought B3 hade try-clover pumps and chillers. i can't seem to find them now. did they stop selling them or am i just wrong?

What kinda shit is this filter going to catch, that won't just drop out with a little time? Are you stressing out about trub and hops into your fermenter? I wouldn't worry about it as long as it's not "excessive".

i was acually thinking about it for when i make really hoppy beers. whenever i dry hop with 4+ oz of hops i always end up transferring a bunch into the keg. then it clogs my popits. then i get pist. i would use a hop sack to fix this problem but there not very easy to get out of a carboy.

There is actually a real simple solution to your problem. Use a hop bag but dry hop in your keg instead of the carboy. Tie the bag shut with a piece of unflavored dental floss. Tie the free end of the floss to the handle on the keg. The lid will seal over the floss with no problem at all. When I do this I tie the floss short enough that the hops will only hang half way down the inside of the keg. That way I don't even bother with removing the hops. Dry hopping stops after I have drunk the first half of the keg.
