BNer's design on New Monster Mill hoppers...

Thu Nov 05, 2009 12:48 pm

After hearing the "Session" when Fred Francis of Monster Brewing Hardware was the guest (mid last year), I contacted him to see if he needed some assistance in designing a hopper for his product line (in the show he mentioned that he didn't have a hopper to offer). Well over a year later (no real rush on Monster's part), the prototypes are in, and Fred will soon be selling these hoppers on his site. As part of the payment, I now have one of his 2.00" diam, 3-roller versions, and after building a base and adding a motor, I love this set-up. I will post pictures of the finsihed assembly in the next few days. If anyone is interested in drawings of the base, let me know, and I will send you pfds. I will also share any of the details on the sheave sizes used, or any other information desired.
Take care,
-Greg

One "lesson learned" is the motor I purchased (on eBay) isn't capacitor start, so I do need need to start the motor before filling the hopper (the mark on my finger nail has almost grown out from an impact which occured when I tried to spin the large sheave in an attempt to get the mill spinning).

You're going to have to cease and desist the use of the Monster name....

Here are the pictures of the hopper/mill

The assembly goes together with rivets or screws, and I choose to use rivets. The hopper capacity is around #12.
If anyone would like the drawing for the base, let me know.
Take care,

Nice work. Ever since that monster episode so long ago I have been wanting to get a mill, but I wanted to get my brewhouse built. Will have to check this all out!

Thanks Greg, The hopper was easy to assemble and fit perfectly. I'm initially going to use a drill.
My brewery is almost back in business.
