Video of the grain mill in action:

It's working better than I imagined it would (after the troubles I ran into while constructing). It starts up fine with 10+ pounds of grain in the hopper, gives a nice crush, and doesn't produce much dust.

there was someone from central jersey wanting to watch an all grain brew session in the forum. I guess you are in the northwest corner, but maybe you know someone that can help him?

I mounted the capacitor under the switch box on the bottom side of the wood where the mill is mounted.
When I did this, I was like I probably should mount this in a box in case I touch those connects with my hands.
Nah, I'll never be moving it while it's plugged in.

So... The last brew session a few weeks ago I'm grinding my grain on the edge of the garage, with the garage door open.
It starts pouring. I reach down and move the bucket out of the rain.
I put my finger on the capacitor connector while the mill was running.

I felt like Tommy Boy. It fucking hurt, and it left a mark.

So, I bought a box to enclose the capacitor on the bottom side of the wood.
Let's see if fucking electricute myself again before making the change over.

Nothing like a nice jolt of line voltage to wake you up.

I was wondering about the cylindrical object I see on the drive shafts. Is that the "spider coupling"? If so, is it kind of like a low-tolerance u-joint?

yep, that's a spider. it's in 3 parts, one gets tightened to each shaft, and the third is a hard rubber piece that gets sandwiched between. The elasticity allows for some sloppiness in the alignment of the two shafts.
