I gave the flywheel motorized barley crusher mill to my brew buddy Dave - he told me it took him 2 hours to mill his grain for his last 10 gallon batch and I just cried.

If it's the GE motor - they aren't metric they are 1/4"-28 fine thread.

Very cool. Does it work? Does it work from a dead stop while loaded with grain?

The dual switches allow it to move in both directions? In normal usage, is this necessary? I'm wondering if I can skip that step and just go with a single switch.

Yes the dual switch allows forward and reverse - it case it get stuck.

I did a small test run and it work fine. Hopefully I'll be filling the hopper and trying from a dead start this weekend. I need to empty a keg, to empty a carboy.

I'm trying to wire mine right now, and I'm puzzled about the capacitor. It has two tabs to attach wires to. Is this thing polarized - does it matter which wire goes to which tab? I can't see any markings. Quick responses would be appreciated - the soldering iron is already hot.

Big honking capacitors are usually not polarized and will work wired either way. Little electrolytic ones are polarized and will be marked appropriately. Wire one of those up the wrong way and it will pop.
